Evidence for the presence of larger vertebrates, especially birds
and mammals, has, for the most part, been limited to feathers and hair
strands. Recently, scientists from the American Museum of Natural History
identified a portion of the backbone and ribs of a small insectivore
preserved in Dominican amber.
